Peggy's House Band presents an afternoon celebrating the composers who shaped American popular music. This performance features the work of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Jerome Kern—figures whose compositions defined the Great American Songbook and continue to influence musicians today.
The programme explores how these three composers each brought distinctive approaches to their craft. Gershwin's innovative blend of classical forms with jazz rhythms created a distinctly American sound, while Porter's sophisticated wit and refined sensibility elevated Broadway standards. Kern's commitment to integrating music with dramatic storytelling helped establish the modern musical theatre form.
Performed by Peggy's House Band featuring Eliot Richards on tenor saxophone, Matt Ratcliffe on piano, Simon Paterson on bass, and Andrew Woody Wood on drums. Dining from 1pm, with the performance running from 2pm to 4pm, including an interval.
