Trainspotting the Musical marks the world premiere of a stage adaptation three decades after the iconic film. Written by Irvine Welsh with music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh, and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, the production reunites the characters of Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy and Kelly.
The musical explores how addiction and yearning have evolved over thirty years, shifting from visible struggle to quieter, more embedded forms embedded in modern life. Through original and classic songs, the production examines contemporary themes of wealth concentration, political powerlessness and cultural disconnection. The work combines theatrical storytelling with a dynamic, provocative energy, delivering a dark and energetic experience that challenges audiences to confront contemporary society.
