The Hallé orchestra, conducted by Kahchun Wong, presents an ambitious programme featuring acclaimed violinist Alena Baeva performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto. This concert pairs Finnish classical traditions with two compelling twentieth-century works: Akira Ifukube's ballet Salome, drawing on his distinctive compositional approach to orchestral storytelling, and William Walton's ambitious cantata Belshazzar's Feast. Originally conceived as a modest commission, Walton's work evolved into a large-scale choral spectacle that showcases ingenious rhythmic invention and orchestral colour. The programme concludes with a piece of significant musical and historical importance. A free pre-concert talk at 6:00pm will feature conductor Kahchun Wong and an introduction to the forthcoming Nottingham Classics season.
