Conductor Euan Shields leads the Hallé orchestra in a programme of Slavic masterworks for his final appearance as Assistant Conductor. The concert opens with Janácek's Taras Bulba, an atmospheric orchestral work inspired by Gogol's novella of Cossack life. Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma returns to perform Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, a virtuosic yet lyrical work composed during a period of personal upheaval. The programme concludes with Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, a vibrant celebration of Bohemian culture filled with melodic charm and orchestral colour. A pre-concert talk with Euan Shields takes place at 6:20pm in the auditorium. Tickets from £12.50.
