Opera North presents Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, a dramatic exploration of love, regret and missed opportunities. The production follows Tatyana, a young woman from rural Russia who falls deeply in love with the cynical Eugene Onegin. When he dismisses her affections, she moves on with her life. Years later, their paths cross again when Tatyana is an established member of St Petersburg society—but now married to another man. Onegin's realisation of his love comes too late, with profound consequences for them both.
Conducted by Opera North's Music Director Garry Walker and directed by Patrick Nolan, this co-production with Irish National Opera and Opera Queensland showcases Tchaikovsky's gift for memorable melody and theatrical drama, particularly in the celebrated Letter Scene. This new staging brings fresh interpretation to a timeless story of human emotion and fate.
