After Hours: Enigma

After Hours: Enigma presents a musical exploration of Sir Edward Elgar's Variations on an Original Theme. Composed in 1899, this orchestral work features fourteen variations inspired by Elgar's closest friends and family, built around a mysterious hidden theme that has intrigued audiences for over a century.

University of Nottingham Music Department students perform their own compositions, each responding to Elgar's original theme. This late-night concert offers an opportunity to engage with both the classical masterwork and contemporary student interpretations, continuing the tradition of musical investigation that Elgar himself began.

This event follows an earlier Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra concert. Ticket holders for that performance receive complimentary admission to this After Hours event. Please note: start time may vary depending on the conclusion of the earlier concert.
