Les Amazones d'Afrique brings a fresh musical perspective to the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall stage. Founded in Bamako, Mali in 2014 by renowned artists Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré and Mariam Doumbia, the collective has expanded to include female voices from across Africa and the diaspora, including Angélique Kidjo and Nneka.
The ensemble combines pan-African musical styles with contemporary pop influences, creating richly melodic arrangements underpinned by a commitment to gender equality and social change. Their previous work has been recognised by The Guardian, NPR Music and featured on President Obama's playlist. For their third album, the band collaborated with renowned producer Jacknife Lee to develop a new sound incorporating hip-hop, trap and electronic elements.
