Nottingham Central Library hosts Poet Laureate Simon Armitage as part of his annual springtime libraries tour. Armitage, born and raised in West Yorkshire, has published over a dozen poetry collections and received numerous accolades including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. His acclaimed translations include Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, whilst his recent collections Blossomise and Dwell achieved Sunday Times bestseller status.
The evening showcases local writers and poets who have participated in Armitage-inspired workshops throughout the city. Community performances open the event, followed by an appearance from Nottingham's new Nature Poet Laureate, Cara Thompson, celebrating the city's decade as a UNESCO City of Literature. Simon Armitage will perform a poetry set, with opportunity for book signing and meet-and-greet afterwards.
Doors open 6:30pm for a 7pm start. This is a seated event without allocated spots, with priority seating available. An interval will be included, and the bar and café will be open from 6:30pm.
