The Strasbourg Philharmonic, conducted by Aziz Shokhakimov, presents an evening of contrasting musical narratives. Featuring renowned violinist Maria Ioudenitch, the programme explores themes of love, damnation, dreams, and folklore through works by Richard Strauss, Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns, and Tchaikovsky. Beginning with Strauss's Don Juan, the concert progresses through Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto—renowned for its dreamlike opening and volatile Scherzo—before transitioning into the supernatural atmosphere of Saint-Saëns's Danse Macabre. The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky's Second Symphony, a vibrant work drawing on Ukrainian folk melodies. A free pre-concert talk by Dr Sophie Redfern begins at 6:20pm in the auditorium.
