The NDR Philharmonic Hannover, conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky, presents an evening of classical and romantic works at the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall. Pianist Nikolai Lugansky performs Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 1, a work combining youthful ambition with mature compositional refinement. The programme also features Prokofiev's Classical Symphony, written during the composer's retreat from revolutionary Russia, and Brahms' Second Symphony, which balances explicit romanticism with concealed emotional depth. A free pre-concert talk at 6:20pm with Dr Robert Adlington examines the characteristics that define the symphonic form. Tickets range from £13 to £44.50, with booking opening for subscribers on 26 May, multibuys on 1 June, and general release on 8 June.
