Bbc Concert Orchestra: Verdi's Requiem

The BBC Concert Orchestra presents Verdi's Requiem, conducted by Anna-Maria Helsing, featuring soloists Francesca Chiejina (soprano), Jennifer Johnston (mezzo), Brenden Gunnell (tenor), and Matthew Rose (bass). The combined choirs of Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham complete the ensemble.

Composed in 1874, Verdi's Requiem stands as his only large-scale work created outside the operatic stage, yet retains the dramatic intensity characteristic of his theatrical compositions. The work spans considerable emotional range, from the imposing force of the Dies Irae to the delicate intimacy of the Agnus Dei. The expansive choral writing, particularly evident in the Sanctus, provides substantial opportunities for the combined voices to demonstrate their capabilities.
