The Tarot is a gentle invitation to support yourself with curiosity and kindness. It can help you identify your values and goals, nudging you in that direction with reflection and insight. It is also a perfect partner tool to a magical or creative practice.
This 4-week course will give you a comprehensive foundation to start using the Tarot for yourself. We will be using the classic Rider Waite Smith deck.
Week 1
We start in week one with a brief history of Tarot, deck variations and their contexts, and what we mean by archetypes. We will look at your personal cards, year cards, and work as a group to introduce ourselves to the Major Arcana.
Week 2
In week two we delve more deeply into the Major Arcana, and the journey through the layers of these cards begins. We will peel back the outer world and get comfortable with these impactful archetypes, challenging what we know about ourselves and the worlds we inhabit.
Week 3
Week 3 is involved at looking at the minor pip cards (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles) and the elements. What gifts and obstacles can these cards present and how can they weave wider stories together?
Week 4
Finally we look at ways of reading in traditional and creative ways. You will work alone and in pairs to practice techniques and intuit strategies that will begin to embed the knowledge gathered in the previous three weeks.
Blue Firth has been working with the Tarot for over 20 years. She teaches using semiotics, criticality and popular culture as a way to read the images and relationships between cards. The aim is to form narratives that act as a mirror to the reader deepening an understanding of given situations, aspirations or problems.
This is an in-depth course which mixes both individual and group work, with discussion points and guidance throughout. Expect an in-depth, informative and fun approach to this esoteric practice. You'll leave with the skills to start your own practice and to work with the cards in personal and creative ways.
