The People's Hall
About this venue
The People's Hall is an oft forgotten architectural gem in Central Nottingham.
Once a family home to Ann Morley in 1750, the building has lived through so much of Nottingham's history yet today stands empty and in search of purpose. Uniquely for a building of its age, much of its interior is original to the Georgian period. The grand fireplaces, decorative cornice work and ornate central staircase are rare examples that survive in good condition.
Recent renovation plans have two primary goals: to protect the structure for the next 275 years and to reopen it to the public, honoring its history as a design school and community space. We are in the early stages of establishing a long term plan for The People's Hall. With financial support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Nottingham Historic Building Trust (NHBT) aims to reopen the building as a space for community once again.
The NHBT has been awarded a grant from the Heritage Fund to manage the People's Hall in its 'meanwhile use'. This 'meanwhile use' project invites the public to engage with the site through open days, markets, and specialist activities like your theatre residency. What I particularly liked about Chronic Insanity's pitch is how the story will be moulded to the building and will be flexible to the spaces we have. This is an excellent opportunity to invite residents and tourists of Nottingham to experience The People's Hall like never before.
