Newcastle-based songwriter Mat Hunsley brings his alt-folk sound to The Grove, performing material from his debut album The Things We Need. Blending folk and alternative influences, Hunsley's intimate and reflective songwriting draws from personal experiences and broader themes of contemporary life. His work features distinctive open tunings and melodic arrangements shaped by influences including Ben Howard, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Bon Iver.

The Things We Need balances introspective exploration with engagement on wider social and political themes. Supported by the PRS Open Fund, the album followed a successful Kickstarter campaign and recognition from BBC Introducing. This performance offers an opportunity to experience Hunsley's carefully crafted material in an intimate setting.
