'The Fair Folk' brings together four artists at The Curious Tower, Nottingham. The fées haunted forests and waterways; the haltija inhabited the home, the field, the sauna, demanding respect and reciprocity; the fairy lurked at the bottom of the garden, mischievous and ungovernable, leaving rings in the grass. These are presences that occupy thresholds, figures small enough to vanish before you look directly at them, bound to particular places, particular hours, particular kinds of attention. The artists here treat fairy, spirit, and spectral figures as a living symbolic vocabulary. Their works do not illustrate folklore so much as inhabit its logic: the threshold, the doubling, the thing glimpsed and then gone.
