Matt Ratcliffe's Unity presents a Hammond organ quartet rooted in the classic soul jazz tradition of the 1960s. Drawing inspiration from legendary organists including Larry Young, Jimmy Smith, and Jack McDuff, the ensemble brings together the gospel foundations of the Hammond sound with contemporary jazz sensibilities.
Expect burning modal workouts, swinging blues, gospel-inflected passages, and Latin-tinged grooves performed by Matt Ratcliffe on Hammond organ, Tobie Carpenter on guitar, Nadim Teimoori on tenor saxophone, and Jim Bashford on drums. This performance takes place at Peggy's Skylight with doors at 7pm and music from 8pm to 10pm, including an interval.
