This evening celebrates the life and musical legacy of James Brown, the influential artist who shaped post-war music and culture. Award-winning filmmaker and journalist James Maycock leads an illuminating discussion, chaired by Vince Wilson, drawing on his unique access to James Brown during the early 2000s, including a week-long filming visit to Augusta, Georgia for a Channel 4/PBS documentary.
Maycock shares insights from his extensive interviews with James Brown's collaborators and feature articles published in Mojo, The Observer, and The Independent. The programme includes archival clips, unseen photographs, and a vinyl DJ set during the interval, exploring Brown's influence on civil rights, social messaging, and American culture across several decades.
Doors open at 6pm with presentation from 7pm. Food is available for separate purchase and should be completed before the presentation begins.
