Djangada presents a distinctive fusion of Brazilian music and jazz, reimagining classics from Gilberto Gil and Dorival Caymmi through a funky piano trio arrangement. The London-based trio draws inspiration from the Jangada fishing boats of northeast Brazil and the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of Bahia, transforming traditional bossa nova into contemporary grooves.
The band features Sam Watts on piano and Matheus Nova on bass, musicians with extensive experience in European Brazilian rhythm sections, alongside drummer Marcinho Pereira. Their collaboration brings together years of musical communication, resulting in meticulously arranged pieces punctuated by powerful improvisation. The performance combines the sophistication of 1960s bossa nova piano trio aesthetics with a modern, rhythmically-driven approach.
Doors open at 7pm with the performance running from 8pm to 10pm, including an interval.
