Meet John Allison, cartoonist and author of Big City Reads 2026's chosen graphic novel Charlotte Grote: Solver. Solver is one of the funniest and cleverest graphic novels around. Hear what's behind Charlotte Grote's story alongside her fabulous sense of fashion. 

Don't miss this fantastic event and learn all about John Allison's work and creative process. John will be in conversation with Laura Snapes, Deputy Music Editor of the Guardian and a freelance journalist. John Allison is best known for his series Giant Days, Bad Machinery and Steeple. John's comics have been nominated for multiple Eisner Awards (winning twice in 2019), and in 2018 he won the Best Long-Form Online Comic award from the US National Cartoonists’ Society. His work has been translated around the world and published all over Europe, North and South America.

His latest series is The Great British Bump-Off: Kill Or Be Quilt, a collaboration with Giant Days artist Max Sarin, for Dark Horse.  Find outmode about his ongoing webcomic serial Solver at badmachinery.com.
