Nottingham Castle is a historic site featuring a 17th-century ducal palace, built on the foundations of a Norman fortress.
In the modern day it serves as a museum and art gallery showcasing Nottingham's history, industry (especially lace), and fine art, while also being famous for its legendary connection to Robin Hood and its network of caves beneath Castle Rock.
Originally a powerful medieval stronghold, the medieval castle was demolished after the English Civil War, with the current palace built in its place before it burned down in 1831 and was later redeveloped into its present-day museum.
