"Batwings (A Liminal Hymn)" is a track from the band 'Coil', from Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 2 (2000). Its lyrics draw largely from Sir Thomas Browne's Musaeum Clausum (1684), an imaginary inventory of rare, lost, or nonexistent books, pictures, and curiosities; a fantasy catalogue of objects that never existed: 'moon-pieces', 'snake skin bred from human spinal marrow', 'towers built to appear perpetually falling'.

The artists in this exhibition work within a similar logic. Drawing on occult traditions in which objects accumulate charge through use, association, and intent, each practice treats the found object as already significant, a key, a bottle, a game card, a stone, and activates that significance through arrangement. Individually, these things are residue. Together, they become reliquary, talisman, altar.
